how do you even get past the first level?
This is the best game for DS hands down. I can't wait for JA2 on DS. I miss this old school style.
I totally loved the PC version of this game, except the bugs that crashed when you took a ride in the helicopter. This is good, but the controls aren't as good as using a mouse. But hey, its jagged alliance, and for all those who didn't get to play it on the PC, persist with the game, as it is very, very good. I agree thatdamnasianR, UFO should be done next, that was oh so cool too, especially the cheats to make your xcom men super. Also can you do Wizball, a Monkey Island point and click adventure, and maybe even the C64 Bruce Lee. Memories!
Holy mother of god!
I missed this game, played it a decade ago and I still wanna go at it
Screenshots 1, 2 and 4 are all the same
This definitely brought back lots of great memories: JA, JA2, JA2:UB... my cousins and I would take turns playing for hours. We laughed hysterically when we played with the voice-over item names (on PC) and shortened "A Machete" before the "ee" sound at the end.
I was really, really glad to see this come to the DS, but honestly, I'm in the valley between the two mountains of commented opinions here. On one hand, there's the "JA is awesome, I love this game so much," while across the way is the "horrible interface, no tutorial, wtf am I doing?"
For me, I love the whole JA series. It broke my heart when Talonsoft sold out. I'm really glad to play it again. BUT, I do miss using a mouse. I hate that the only way to reload is to fire the gun, which wastes a bullet. Maybe I don't want to carry four packs of ammo; someone else needs a pack, but I only have one bullet left in my gun. Oh well, guess they're out of luck and I'm getting five shots before I reload, instead of six. This was after finding out how to shoot. And eff my life if it didn't take me forever to figure out how to cancel shooting, so my team members would stop whining about how I was trying to get them to shoot their buddy.
I love the game, and figuring out how to play it is totally worth it to me (EVERYONE stand on the edge so we can go between sectors, please and thank you). However, I understand the frustration for everyone who never played it before and didn't buy the game to get an instruction manual with it.
In the end, lets use the forums and Google to figure out how to play, and make an effort to enjoy this game if we aren't already. A bad user interface is enough to stop playing a game over, but please don't judge the game's interface on being too impatient to learn the system.
Oh man. I don't get how to move on in the game. Complicated!
Uhhh, question out of curiousity, am i the ONLY one having any problems dl'ing any of the games here? :O, says it cant find the URL posted for the games.
Hahahaha oh man. I can see the evolution of gamerman in these comments. Back in the day, PC games came with gigantic manuals that were hundreds of pages long. Even Street Fighter II for the PC had a large dictionary-sized manual. Whenever you booted it up, it asked you to get that manual, turn to a certain page, and type in a certain word just to get the game started. Such was ye olde day of PC gaming. There were no tutorials for anything. When you hit "New Game" on Doom and hear duh duh na duh duh na duh duh duuuhhhhh did you need instructions to walk forward, to the left, shoot the grunts, grab the armor, hit the switch? No!
Now that I think about it, I never noticed how seemlessly we moved into games having tutorials for almost everything. A game like this would have DEFINITELY benifited from a tutorial, but it's a port! I'm sure if you, I dunno, bought the game, you would have had the Cliff Note's edition to the PC game manual and after a few hours of studying, been able to play the game.
Me, being the intelligent lad I am, spent endless hours learning every single feature of the game in the detailed manual and strategy guide I purchased from the Salvation army. Nah, I just looked online.
The internets is a good place like that.
That said, once you learn how to play the damn thing the game is pretty damn fun. Lot of micro-managing to be had, and fun comments like "I'm in a warzone... WITHOUT BULLETS!"
Nice, getting the racism and homophobia all in one sentence like that. your parents must be proud.
Jagged Alliance is one of the greatest games ever made by man.
