Considering that FF8 was one of my first "modern" PSX games, I could say that I liked FF8, no matter how cliche things did get at some points, like the previously mentioned "OHAI WE WERE ALL IN A ORPHANAGE TOGETHER LULZ". I can say though, I love Edea. :P
I honestly do not think any FFs are superior over the other, and I can't judge anything beyond FFIX because I suck enough not to have been able to play FFX yet. (Damn...)
Graphically, it was an interesting approach to try something cinematic instead of the standard, straightforward approach. I honestly do think it helped me get into the story; especially the battle themes, of which I can say I love the battle themes here right next to FFVI's. Nobuo-sama's outdone himself here. :)
Storyline-wise, it's quite interesting. Can't say anything more than that, because even though I find the story "interesting" by my standard, I don't exactly remember anything that more or less strikes me as a new experience.
I never exactly bothered nagging about the game system. I found it alright. Nothing exactly worth complaining about.
Only thing I hate about it is the freaking card game, but that's it.
Characters aren't as deeply rooted and solid as those in FFVI and FFVII, but they had a few redeeming qualities. Laguna was interesting, to say the least.
Overall, I do think this is a game worth playing, but not something one would exactly want to play over and over. The soundtrack is the best part of the game. :P
Fanboys have such HORRIBLE tastes, this was good, nowhere near as good as IX though. It's about even with VII. XII was just down right horrible.
people whine about the magic customization to stats in this game, when in all honesty it isn't hard. If it seams like it would help out, IE lightning spell on a speed stat, it is good. and any one who thinks FF7 is better needs to get their brains checked, 7 sucked balls, cloud was a whiny emo with blond hair, who just happened to be the spawn of sephiroth, who just happened to be really tough.
Nice.I love this game =)
Thanks to custom firmware I can play them on the go.
I played every final fantasy(yeah I know what your thinking >.> )
and this one rules.
Probably the best final fantasy out there. The story's not as deep as FFVII, but it features a very likable cast of characters and gameplay different from any other RPG.
I can't say this is anywhere near one of the best Final Fantasy games. Because, in my opinion, the classic final fantasy style is vastly superior to what exists in final fantasy VII, VIII, and so forth. And I am indeed a classic final fantasy fan, who longs for the crystals and white and black mages.
It's another one of those, because I'm a classic final fantasy fan, that doesn't feel like a final fantasy. It's like, where are the crystals? That being said, it's not like this game isn't worthwhile at all. But that will come in a minute as I want to address one more other thing.
You don't have to be a Final Fantasy VII fanboy/girl in order to think that it is superior to Final Fantasy VIII. The storyline in VIII isn't so good in my opinion as VII(aside from a few wallbangers such as black materia), and the battle system is a bit reliant on one area too much that is even less well rounded than VII's materia system(actually I believe the materia system is pretty solid, but that's a discussion for another time). Making the most important element to all battling be a consumable magic was in my, opinion, not a good idea.
Now I get to finally get on to saying the good. I've never been one to speak ill of the romance element in final fantasy vii. In fact gaming needs more of it. However, aside from that, the storyline is very weak. But it's also a smooth ride that can very well be enjoyed, they do play politics as a story element far better than xii. It's very everyday but that's isn't necessarily bad as they did it well, not everything has to be epic. And it's the epic in viii that they failed at. So it has a mediocre storyline and probably even one of the better epic lacking storyline games out there.
Those small little things like talking to random people are very fun in this game. And while the battle system relies to heavily on a flawed element, it is a positive thing about this game that it breaks the rule slightly of "grind solves everything". Grind helps is an overdone RPG trope and I have to applaud Final Fantasy VIII from going against it.
And obviously, while not important to gaming(oh no certainly not, the idea that graphics are important is part of the cancer that is killing gaming). But since the game already has a charming quality despite not being very epic or having an exceptional battle system, somehow improves the overall enjoyment of the game greatly. It has a very cinematic feel, and if you're looking for something with romance, politics, a bit of a dark feel, a hip and modern look, and a hardcore game you can devote many hours of your life to, final fantasy viii is well worth the time.
I've said a lot of negative things about viii putting it on a hierarchy far below that of several other final fantasy games. But it is also a very solid, worthy hardcore game. Not being a top game is by no means a statement that something is trash. Final Fantasy VIII is a game that will stick with you and deserves much, much praise.
I can't stress enough that while inferior in my opinion, to so very games, it is also superior to the majority. It is an amazing game, very worthy of any person's time. I spent very many hours of my life playing this game and it's nice to have it again now that my discs and in bad shape and my playstation 2 is broke. I must thank you romulation, for putting this title available for download.
does this work on the psp?
FF8 was without a doubt the worst of the series the story was terrible "we were all in an orphanage together wow" the whole time thing was a poor ripoff of ff1 and the characters were extremely annoying (except for seifer he was cool)the magic system was terrible you couldn't even cast good magic cause it would decrease your stats and the junction system was terrible and it made battles extremely long and repetitive watching the same stupid summon again and again all the while bashing the square button. the weapon system was extremely tedious as well having to go out of your way to gather specific parts. the leveling system was a bit stupid as well i mean you could get evreyone to level 100 in no time. all in all if your a rpg fan then you should play this its not the best but its alright
FF series rocks!!
Ahh, definitely my favorite Final Fantasy game above all others. I still remember the first time I played this game, I had to be at least seven years old. I still play it these days. The story never ceases to amaze me. I rate this game above so many others. =D
Ah Final Fantasy 8; worst of the series. This is the only Final Fantasy I could not stay interested in long enough to finish. The Junction system was so terrible it was buried deep in the ground and covered with cement to prevent it's return. The characters are one-dimensional and annoying. The storyline is abysmal with no redeeming qualities. If you have beaten all the others, you might give this one a chance.
haha.. the white seed ship, it took me a day just to find it.. hehe.. played it with cheats using game shark lite.. weet weet
